Cowichan Valley
The Cowichan Valley is located on Vancouver Island, midway between Victoria and Nanaimo, with Vancouver being a short distance by ferry or plane. It is home to approximately 74,000 people, and has the highest mean temperatures in Canada.
Cowichan's downtown core is Duncan, the world-renowned City of Totems, which is home to the world's widest totem pole, and the world's largest hockey stick and puck (205 feet long and weighing 31 tons). Cowichan is also famous for its genuine Cowichan Indian sweaters.
The Cowichan Region offers fresh-water and ocean fishing, live theatre, high-ranking public and private schools, parks, hiking and cycling trails, marinas, vineyards, access to snow and water skiing, and a community centre with new library. The Carmanah Valley is also just a few hours away by car. Forestry and farming are the principal industries, and there are several forestry companies in the area, along with sawmills, pulp and paper mills, and logging.
